Magick: Putting it all together
I don't limit myself to only doing spells at my altar because life is spontaneous and unpredictable. It's sort of like asking Batman to only fighting crime from the Batcave! I have a connection to the Elements and the Deities with me all the time. That means that wherever I am, I can do magick!
My primary method of casting is what I call Emotional Casting. It is casting from your heart, connecting with love to the Elemental energies and Deities, and envisioning the positive changes you want to make. This sort of casting has several benefits.
It is nearly impossible to detect.
It leaves no trace (candle, spell note, mojo bag), so your spell cannot be undone by another.
It can be done at any time, anywhere.
You don't have to purchase a single item to cast a spell.
Now before someone cries "fluffy bunny" because of my focus on loving energy and positive change, consider it from a real-world perspective. You have coupled your mundane alarm system with a magickal one that you cast from your deep love for and desire to protect your family. Burglars are not going to be very happy with the arrival of law enforcement if they trip your alarm system. They are not going to feel a lot of sweetness and light coming from you when they are put in the back of a police car! But your family, who you love dearly, is protected and safe.
As Wiccans and Pagans, we try to follow "Harm None" to the best of our ability, knowing that it is nearly impossible to exist and not step on a few toes now and then. If the alarm system example is the logical and sane approach in the mundane world, why do you think it would be any different in the magickal realm? That is why I live by a revised version of the Wiccan Reed that says, "Harm None, but allow no harm to come."
